ABOUT THE FISD ELEMENTARY GIFTED PROGRAM

Curriculum

The curriculum for the FISD Gifted Program is designed to spiral up through levels of core content (Math, Science, English Language Arts, and Social Studies), research skills, critical thinking skills, and social-emotional learning.

Critical Thinking Skills

Critical Thinking Skills are taught through a systematic progression of lessons using the Primary Education Thinking Skills program. Students explore a variety of thinking skills with six animal characters. Each grade level "spirals up" as students strengthen and deepen their use of these skills.

Projects

Students work on multi-disciplinary projects during the course of the year. Some of the projects come from the Texas Performance Standards Project - a set of project resources for G/T teachers and students that allow students to create professional quality work in alignment with the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented Students. Students use research and communication skills as they work on topics requiring the integration of reading, math, science, and/or social studies.
